Shreveport’s 2023 Master Plan is Receiving a Makeover

In 2011, the City Council of Shreveport and the Caddo Parish Commission set the stage for transformation by approving the “Shreveport-Caddo 2030 Plan”. This document valued at $1.2 million aimed to steer the city towards sustainable growth and a revitalized future. The 2030 Master Plan replaced the previous 55-year-old plan, which was somewhat outdated and not properly enforced. The document was updated and given a new direction this year, with the expertise of "Asakura Robinson," a Texas-based planning, land architecture, and urban design firm.

The collaborative efforts of the city are evident with the arts and medical districts in Downtown Shreveport having experienced significant growth. The Shreveport Common Art and Culture District has been established, showing the city’s commitment to fostering the arts and cultural diversity. Meanwhile, a cutting-edge medical district is taking shape linking healthcare institutions Ochsner LSU Health, and Willis-Knighton North with BRF's InterTech Science Park. Additionally, the city has a new zoning code called the Unified Development Code. The BRF’s Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program has also created an "angel" investor fund to support startups and small businesses in Shreveport.

The Texas-native team tasked with the improvements said it will take a year, and they hope to have a finalized plan for MPC and City Council to vote on in mid-2025.
